Whittle Lampshades

Whittle takes inspiration from the carved surface of wood, where small shifts in line and plane create texture and depth. Shaped through the studio’s exploration of carved form and mark-making, loose vertical elements combine with softened geometric shapes. Subtle variation creates movement across the surface, giving the design a tactile, worked quality. Printed on Fermoie light linen, its linear structure and balanced scale lend themselves naturally to lampshades, where the rhythm of the pattern is revealed across the surface, with light diffusing softly through the cloth.

Each lampshade is designed and made in-house by hand in our Marlborough accessories workshop. Careful attention is given to proportion, placement and construction, ensuring the design sits clearly and evenly around the shape. Each design begins as a hand-drawn repeat, developed in the studio with colour created by eye to sit naturally within the wider collection. The result is a lampshade that is balanced and enduring.
